Artist Statement

in the quaint town of Winchester, an artist was born.

Miss Emily Hide, that's me.

I have a Masters in Cultural and arts management (with winchester University) and a BA (Hons) degree in fine art (with Plymouth University).

Over my studies I have had a traditional period where my art has transformed from painting, to social engagement and performance.

in former study at college, I under took a subject called communication and culture, which has strongly influenced the way i do my work now.

it has allowed me to understand the boundaries of society and how i can prove, disprove, change and adapt them using art.

My main work incorporates a variety of different art forms to help engage the audience on a level unknown to them before stepping in.

'Art has changed. for the better, we wont know... but i am hopeful that this new stage of sociall engaged art mixed with science, will encourage people to learn in a new way. art is where it's happening'. - Emily Hide 2020

'Art is changing, doing a painting or installation of a social issue no longer has a powerful impact, in order to make people understand you must fully immerse them into the work itself, make them part of the work'. - Emily Hide 2018.
