Does your neuron glow?- final Piece for Kiss My Art Exhibition.

Do YoU SeE?

This performative installation Piece is created to make the audience understand about a genetic disorder known as Psychopathic Behaviour. now most people think that being a Psychopath is a bad thing, it's a murderer, a rapist, an abuser, when in actual fact they are mostly ordinary people. like you or me.

the traits of a psychopath include:

Lack of empathy: this is the lack of ''ability to understand and share the feelings of another.’’ or in other words faked emotions to appear normal, they cannot actually feel sympathy towards another human because something is missing in their genetic makeup.

Anti-social behaviour: ‘’ behaviour covers a wide range of unacceptable activity that causes harm to an individual, to their community or to their environment. This could be an action by someone else that leaves you feeling alarmed, harassed or distressed. It also includes fear of crime or concern for public safety, public disorder or public nuisance.’’ this one is more for those who are your typical psychopathic offenders, those who commit crime.

Genetics:

Psychopaths are not made they are born:

there are 3 seperate ways you can be a psychopath, you have to have two of them to be one:

1. bad child hood experience before the age of which you hit puberty; this can include abuse of your person, mental abuse of your person, sexual abuse of your person, any of the above to a loved one/someone you look upto or bullying etc.

2. being in a bad environment as a young person thi can include the following: poor upbringing, being in care, bullying after affect etc.

3. have the presence of a defect within the brain; this is the absence of the MAOA gene which resides in the XP.11.3 part of the chromosome.

The MAOA gene:

Monoamine Oxidase A (MAOA) is the gene that helps break down Monomines, that are the neurotransmitters in the brain that help people to show emotion these include; dopamine, seretonine, epinephrine, norepinephrine

to conclude:

did your neuron glow?

if your neuron glowed a bright blue, some what white colour under the Black light, you are not a psychopath. if your neuron did not glow or glowed a slightly purple colour then you are a psychopath

now we are not assuming that you are in fact a psychopath because anyone could have chosen the neuron you picked up; the point is to show to all of us, everyone, that we all have the potential to be a psychopath, and we may just not know it.

Psychopathy is a registered medical condition, like down syndrome, it is not something people should be blamed for, it is who they are.

please feel free to email some feedback on how you enjoyed the experience. we really appreciate the time for feedback.
